First Came Destruction
In the year 2077, nuclear detonations were dropped upon the land, laying waste to everything above ground. Very few survived, and those who did found themselves living in a very new world. A wasteland. Over the course of two hundred years, the inhabitants of this new world learned to survive despite the hazards all around them. Some hazards were simply the wild life and weather others affected them directly. Some deformed into Ghouls. Others fell pray to experiments, being mutated, killed or simply torched for life. Small numbers of survivors worked together, creating settlements and safe zones while others created gangs of criminals. Throughout all of these groups, four factions in the Boston commonwealth rose above the rest: The Minutemen, The Railroad, The Brotherhood of Steel and the Institute.
Destruction soon followed the rise of these factions. With the will of the commonwealth and the support of the Railroad, the Minutemen were able to overcome the the Institute and The Brotherhood of Steel. It started with the elimination of the Institute, blowing it up from the inside. The Railroad instantly went to finding the surviving Synths and Scientists new homes. However, their efforts were constantly being interfered by the Brotherhood. They believed all Synths should be destroyed rather than saved. The fight between the two lead to the destruction of Brotherhood's airship, and their power within the Boston Commonwealth.
Rise of the Commonwealth
Another two hundred years have passed since then. The Railroad successfully found the Synths a new home. With the Synths being free, and the Institute destroyed, the Railroad no longer had anything left to fight for. As the years passed by, the members slowly moved onto new things until finally they disbanded completely.
Unlike the Railroad, the Minutemen quickly grew in numbers becoming the strongest faction within the Commonwealth. They were able to dwindle the numbers of hostile beings within Boston, allowing most of the Commonwealth to live in peace. Four cities grew from this peace: Diamond City, Sanctuary, Baht City and Goodneighbor. Everyone truly believed peace was in the near future. Unfortunately, even with support of the Minutemen, the Commonwealth was not completely safe.
Resistance of Old Threats
Dwindling in numbers and forced to the far south the Gunners found themselves in leadership. With that new leadership they began recognizing themselves, once again growing in strength. After a few years under the new leadership, they lunched a sneak attack on the Minutemen. They were even able to get a few of the neighboring Raiders, help in terrorize the Commonwealth. This included and was not limited to Kidnappings, murders, looting and enslavement. The attacks began a war between the two factions, destroying many smaller settlements and all the Minutemen's hard work for peace.
There had been rumor that somewhere hidden in the Commonwealth, there was small group of dedicated surviving Brotherhood of Steel members. They had gathered in secret to rebuild the Brotherhood within the Boston Commonwealth. Though it had not been confirmed, people were still worried that this was more than a rumor. Shortly after this news was spread across the Commonwealth, the rumor was confirmed by a message sent out by the Brotherhood claiming they wanted nothing but peace. Though many are weary of this so called 'peaceful' group, no one acted to disband the group. Instead, they signed an agreement with the Minutemen who desperately needed their help with the war.
Though not currently enemies, two other factions in the Commonwealth had also risen. The Super Mutant Forces were a group of Super Mutants that claimed they wanted to coexist with the humans peacefully. Just like the Brotherhood, they signed an agreement, though many fear this agreement will not last.
The other faction was a group of Synths called the SIS. They were large group of survives from the Institute that the Railroad had protected. While the Minutemen were distracted with war, they began raiding nearby settlements for supplies.
From Destruction comes Creation
When the Institute was destroyed, it left behind a large hole in the land which had been completely filled by water. Fourteen years after the destruction of the Institute, healthy, radiation free plant life began to slowly grow around and in the waters. It attracted small groups of people who began making small settlements around the edge of the waters. Many starting to call it Holy Land, claiming that it was the work of a divine spirit awarding the Commonwealth for destroying the Institute. They even created a religion to support this claim.
Others believed it was leftover experiments of Institute that had seeped into the land causing them to question if destroying it had been the right thing to do. Before anyone was able to answer exactly what was going on, the settlers living near the waters suddenly disappeared without a trace. What was odd, was there no signs of any sort of struggle. They were just... gone.
The disappearance of such a large number of people caused mixed reactions within the Commonwealth. Most were afraid of what happened. Despite there being no signs of a struggle, many believed a a mutated monster came out of the waters and ate all of the settlers. Others believed the Institute was still active and had abducted the settlers. A small handful of people believed this was a sign that a powerful entity was in fact healing the land. They believed if you gave your body and soul to the land, the entity would take you away to a better land.
In the year 2384, humans with an amazing power began awakening in random places around the Commonwealth. None of them had memory of where they came from, if they had family, or even how they came to be. They simply appear with two thoughts set in the minds. First, a name, which many decided to use as their own name. Second, the overwhelming feeling to help those around them. With that overwhelming desire, they soon discovered that they had an odd healing ability. Though the ability is minimal, many of them were able to heal a small cut or revive a dying plant by a simply touch. News of the people exploded across the Boston Commonwealth and were given the name Juvan. A name created when a scientist claimed they were rejuvenating the land. Someone else who had been listening to this explanation claimed they were Spirits of Juvan's, and thus the name stuck.
With the appearance of the Juvan, the worshipers of the Divine Spirit erupted in numbers and began calling themselves the Spirit Worshipers. The settlements beside the ruins of the Institute grew into a small city, The Holy Land, which over time was slurred into Holland. Though the Spirit Worshipers were doing more good than bad, one group greatly disliked the rise of this new religion. The Children of Atom believed that these people were being misguided, and began to do everything they could think of to put an end to their beliefs.
Sadly, throughout those years, the Children of Atom were not the only people the Juvan had to worry about. With their uncontrollable urge to help those around them, many of the Juvan have been enslaved by Raiders, Gunners and Super Mutants. Others have been imprisoned by scientists to be used for experiments. The Minutemen claimed they would help protect them, but they were still struggling with the war.
It is now the year 2407. What part will you play in this wasteland...
